Harriet Reis was born on 25 April 1851 at 5 Chatsworth Street, Liverpool, the daughter of Jonas and Marian (Samuel) Reis. She married Arthur Swallow. She died on 30 August 1915, age 63, at 4 Minster Road, Brondesbury, Middlesex. Arthur was born about 1851 and died on 22 March 1932 at 9 Rocky Lane, Anfield, Liverpool.
Harriet and Arthur belong to Reis Generation Two; their children belong to Reis Generation Three and are:
- Laura
- Frank
Above right is a photograph of someone whom we believe to be Harriet. In the original album ‘H. Reis’ is inscribed under it and the only H. Reis of this time period is Harriet so we assume it is her.
NOTES: After Harriet’s death, Arthur married Mary Jane Snelson at Liverpool, West Derby in 1916. He died at Liverpool, West Derby in 1932 age 81 years.
The Swallow family has been found on a number of censuses. From these we gather that Arthur was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, and as far as can be told he is the only Arthur Swallow born in that town around 1851 and so it is assumed here that whenever an Arthur Swallow born in Sheffield appears on the census that is ‘our’ Arthur. The entire family has been found on the 1891 census living at 6 Radnor Place:
Harriet and Laura have been found on the 1901 census. Arthur is not present but has been found on the 1901 census as a boarder at Birkenhead, Cheshire and this can be viewed here. He has also been found on the 1881 census as boarder, however Harriet and Laura so far have not been found on the 1881 census.
