Elizabeth Marchant Man was born in December 1864 at 47, Castle Street, Reading, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Marchant) Man. She was baptized on 2 January 1865 at St Mary the Virgin, Reading. She died on 6 December 1950 at The Talbot Nursing Home, Bournemouth, Hampshire.

She has been found on the 1871 Census living at 2 Tappenden Cottages, Reading in Berkshire, aged 7, a scholar, with her parents: father William Man, aged 93, a retired printer and ‘land house owner’, and her mother Elizabeth aged 32.
On the 1881 census Elizabeth was living at 7, Prospect Street, Reading, with her mother and half-sister. Between 1871 and 1881 Elizabeth Man’s mother had been widowed, re-married (to William Martel), had had a second daughter, Mary A. Martel, and had become a widow again when Martel died in 1874.
On the 1891 census Elizabeth Man, aged 27, was living at Burfield in Berkshire with her widowed mother and half sister Mary A. Martel, aged 14.
Elizabeth has also been found on the 1901 census living at 188 Lassens Bute, Weston Super Mare in Somersetshire, unmarried, with her 62 year old twice widowed mother, Elizabeth Martel, but she is noted NOT as Elizabeth Man but rather as Elizabeth Martel aged 37. The 1901 census can be viewed.
